As
you all know, this years rally theme is “We’re havin a Hoe Down”.
The first thing you probably think of when the West is mentioned are
Cowboys and Indians.
Back in the day, TOTEM POLES were used to recount legends, display clan
lineage, notable events, to celebrate beliefs, and to tell a story.
With
this in mind, we are asking the chapters to build a ‘Story Totem Pole”.
Instead of the scary faces you usually see on them, we are asking each
chapter to design their pole to tell a story about the chapter. Example, the
area you are from, a chapter logo, something about your members, something you
enjoy doing together… The possibilities are endless.
To
get everyone involved, we are also asking you to have a “story teller” there
to tell about the pole. You can also have other members help to act out the
story. You
will have 3 to 5 minutes for this part.
We will confirm after we find out how many will be participating.
The
good thing about this project is that it can be made in sections and quickly
assembled at the rally.
The totem pole can be no larger than 8 ft.
In the Wild West, man relied on his horse for everything. Without one, he couldn’t survive. Your chapter has been transported back into this time, and you all have a problem. You woke up this morning and your horse was gone.
You will need four people from the chapter to help you find your horse and get it “shoed”. This team should consist of two males and two females.
First two members, a male and a female, will have to face major obstacles at the TIN CAN TARGET ALLEY. There, your team will have to fight through the coyotes, natives, vermin, and anything else that comes along, by successfully shooting down targets.
After completing that task, you see your horse. You will have to “LASSO” it in order to move on. Next, they will be PANNING FOR GOLDen extra points.
Finally your captured horse needs to be “shoed”. In this part of the event, the other two members of your team, a male and a female, will play HORSESHOES against another chapter. Due to time restrictions, you will only play to 11 points. This will end up being a double elimination event, and all points earned will be taken into consideration for top prize.
We are planning on an overall Grand prize and a 1st and a 2nd place winner for the horseshoe event. We are asking all participants to be dressed in their Western GarbFriday night, after all the chores are finished, get out your Sunday best for an old fashioned HOE DOWN. This will be a fun night for all. But once again, it will be time to get your dancing shoes out. We are going to have a WESTERN LINE DANCE COMPETITION for all the chapters. Your chapter will need a minimum of 6 people to participate. This event is your own version of the line dance.
There will be a first and a second place prize for this event. For all events, we will need to
know if your chapter is participating by June15, 2008.
We can be reached at 570-474-1014 or goldwing@ptd.net.
